From Manila, Philippines (MLA)

A Visa is required to all visitors of Canada.  As we know how tedious it can get to secure a visa, the couple will be sending you a Save the Date reminder and personal invites that you can present to the Canadian Embassy in their office at RCBC, Makati City.

A link to the Philippine air carrier is provided here for your convenience.  PAL only flies on certain days but it provides a straight flight (to Vancouver) so if you want less transfers, this is your best bet. In my experience, PAL is a bit on the steep side but the typical Filipino warmth and hospitality is unbeatable - compared to other flight crews and attendants from foreign carriers. These are some thoughts you probably would like to consider when booking your flight.

Vancouver,BC is your port of entry.  Therefore, your luggages will be inspected and retrieved here. The Immigration (Q&A) as well as Customs will be done here as well.  Due to these 'extra' things you have to do aside from just catching a flight, please allow a good 'waiting time' when you board your flight to Calgary.  I suggest at least 2-3 hours (just to be sure).

Other Carriers - from Manila

Other carriers:

1. Northwest Airlines - Leave Manila; Connect in Japan (All Nippon Airways) - Tokyo, Nagoya or Narita then Air Canada to Vancouver. Please note that when travelling via NW, sometimes, there is another route for a stopover - as Seattle (USA) before landing in Vancouver, BC.  If this happens, make sure that you also have a valid US Visa to avoid hassles.  Upon landing at Vancouver, you need to proceed to the Domestic airport for your flight to Calgary.

Most number of transfers: 4 (Mla-Nrt-Seattle-YVR-YYC)

2. Cathay Pacific - Leave Manila to HongKong; Board Air Canada straight to Vancouver, BC.  - I recommend this flight if you can't get a straight flight via PAL.  This is a good choice if you think you can't stand lots of transfers between cities (hence, less stress...) In my previous trips, I used Cathay and AC connections and it was ok - but am not very happy with chekwa talks on a long haul flight though.

Most number of transfers: 3 (Mla-HK-YVR-YYC)

3. Japan Airlines - Leave Manila to Narita, Japan.  Board Air Canada to Vancouver, BC. There are also some flights where JAL will connect you via San Francisco (USA) - same thing applies - make sure you have a visa to enter the US.  This functions much like a flight with Cathay.  My mom used this on her recent trip here.  It was ok had the Japanese customs were not rude towards Asian passengers.  For the first time, my usual prim and proper mom had to raise her eyebrows and sound really stern towards Japanese officials who questioned her trip.  Que horror!!!
